IN THE WORLD OF AYURVEDA, NO FACIAL TOOL IS MORE REVERED THAN THE KANSA WAND. WHILE IT HAS BEEN CHERISHED IN THE EAST FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, ITS WONDERS ARE JUST BEGINNING TO BE DISCOVERED.
What is a Kansa Wand?
The Kansa Wand is a dome-shaped facial massage tool crafted from a unique blend of copper and tin. This metal, known as Kansa, is celebrated in Ayurvedic texts for its ability to promote lymphatic drainage, remove toxins, and balance the skin's pH levels.
Historically, Kansa has also been used in utensils to reduce the acidity of food, making it more digestible. Similarly, when applied to the skin, it helps make the skin more alkaline, lessening susceptibility to acne and inflammation.
Benefits of Using a Kansa Wand
BALANCED SKIN: By neutralising skin acidity, the Kansa Wand helps balance pH levels.
ENHANCED CIRCULATION: It increases blood flow and promotes oxygenation, giving your skin a natural glow.
REDUCED PUFFINESS: Its gentle massage reduces puffiness and helps with lymphatic drainage.
FIRMING AND TONING: Regular use of the Kansa Wand tones the skin, enhancing facial muscle tone and giving a sculpted appearance.
HOLISTIC HEALING: Beyond skin-deep benefits, it is believed to balance the three Doshas—Pitta (fire), Vata (air), and Kapha (water)—and unblock the body's seven chakras, boosting vitality and relieving stress.
WHOLE BODY CARE: The Kansa Wand is not just for the face. It is also excellent for full-body massages and is especially wonderful for foot massages, promoting relaxation and well-being throughout the body.
How to Use a Kansa Wand?
For optimal results, pair the Kansa Wand with a nutrient-rich serum. A Saffron serum, for example, enhances the treatment's effectiveness.
1. PREPARE YOUR SKIN: Apply your serum and gently massage it in.
2. MASSAGE TECHNIQUES:
- Use circular motions around the eye sockets.
- Draw figures of eight across the forehead.
- Aplly upward strokes along the jawline.
For full-body use, employ similar techniques, adapting the strokes to larger areas. For a soothing foot massage, use circular motions and firm strokes along the soles and arches of the feet.
3. STIMULATE AND TONE:
Use deep, slow, firm yet gentle strokes from the centre of the face outward.
Work the larger groove under the cheekbones and the smaller groove along the jawline and neck to stimulate lymphatic drainage and release toxins.
NOTE: If you notice a greyish tint on your skin during use, simply wipe it away with a cloth. This discoloration indicates the release of impurities reacting with the Kansa metal. Not everyone will experience this, as it depends on individual skin acidity levels.
Care Instructions
For the first use and after each treatment, gently clean the metal part of the wand with a chemical-free soap and towel dry it. This ensures your wand remains sanitised and ready for the next use.
